How To Enhance Or Improve Your Image
There is an old axiom that has been floating around the advertising circuits for at least a couple of decades now
. A simple phrase: Image is Everything.
At first the message might sound a bit cryptic until you realize that the music and advertising industries share a lot of common threads. The main common denominator these two industries share is the fact that they are designed to capture peoples interests, to entertain and to spread a message.
Whether it's McDonalds telling you how much they're lovin' it or Edwin Starr belting out "War... What is it good for?", the idea is to create a vivid image that delivers a solid message.
As a musician, you need to create just such a strong image that stay with your fans. There are several very good ways to do this.
Play a charity gig - Everyone loved the character of Robin Hood because he helped the less fortunate. If you are invited to perform at a charity benefit, jump at the chance.
Donate a portion of your sales - In a similar vein to the last suggestion, people love to get on board with those who are impacting change for the better. If you announce that a portion of your CD or ticket sales will be donated to a special cause, like childhood leukemia, you are going to definitely see a rise in your popularity.
Share a message - One of the best ways for a singer or songwriter to improve their image is sharing a positive message. When John Lennon wrote "Imagine all the people, living life in peace.", there was no doubt where he stood on the subject. If you share a message that people can support, they will support it.
