How To Fix Damage And Problems With Your Commercial Joinery

Many businesses, from offices to restaurants and stores to schools

, can benefit from the inclusion of commercial joinery projects. This may include the construction of shelving, cabinets, workstations, staircases and a number of other structural elements. The timber used for these creations will be cut down to size and joined using a woodworking glue before then being placed in the desired location.

But what happens if, a few years down the track, you notice that your joinery has been damaged or has developed an issue of some kind? Ultimately, the only way to fix damage in commercial joinery pieces is to replace them, especially if the timber has been broken or damaged in any other way. Some of the issues experienced by joinery, such as failing of the glue, can be fixed (by simply re-gluing the timber together with a better quality product), but some cannot. In these cases, the piece will also need to be replaced.

At the end of the day, the best way to fix damage and problems that occur with commercial joinery is to prevent them from developing in the first place. There are a number of ways that you can do this, including:

Thoroughly checking over each piece of timber that is used in the project and discarding any that are warped, bent or present other kinds of damage.

Checking that the joints fit together properly before applying glue to the grooves in the timber.

Measuring up the timber two to three times before cutting to ensure that you will be left with pieces that fit together perfectly and fit into the desired location.

Undertaking as much of the work at the location as possible, as this prevents the chances of damage developing during transportation.

Making sure that the woodworking glue, nails and screws used in the commercial joinery project are of a high quality and that manufacturers instructions are adhered to.

Ensuring that joints that may be subject to shrinkage have been created loosely, but that they are sanded and primed during the finishing stage.

Whilst there is nothing quite like having a piece of custom commercial joinery in your workplace, it is important that you make sure that precautions are taken to ensure that damage and other issues do not arise down the track. Even if you do not know much about joinery yourself, by hiring a reputable company or individual you will be achieving a similar outcome.
