This is how a lead generation system works. First of all you need to create an opt-in page for people to enter their name and email address and/or phone number. In that opt-in page you need to offer people a very good incentive for them to give away their contact information. The higher the value of what you are giving away, usually, the better the odds of people signing up.
Then you need to drive targeted traffic to that page. And when I say targeted traffic I actually mean it. It would be useless for you to drive people to a site about weight loss when what they are really looking for are strategies to become more assertive. So if you get targeted traffic, and tons of it, you will see that many people will opt-in.
Now, how do you drive targeted traffic to your site? Here is one of the most sought after topics in internet marketing. Mainly there are two ways to drive traffic to your site, one is paid and one is free. The paid one is usually through pay-per-click, however, unless you have a good capital to draw funds from and you know what you are doing, you are most likely run out of money before you see any results.
The other way is free, but it takes a lot more work but obviously less money. This kind of traffic is called organic traffic and what it refers to is the traffic that you get when anyone finds you through a search in a search engine, like Google or Yahoo. Now, the trick here is to be able to get to the first page in that search, since the majority of people won't ever click to see page two, much less page three or twenty.
To rank within the first 10 spot in a search engine's query, since there are usually only 10 results in each page, you need to make your content relevant to the keyword that was entered in the search box. Also, you need to optimize your page with what's called on-page factors.
The on-page factors are things that you can do when you create your article to tell the search engine what your article is about. The most commonly know on-page factors are:
- URL: Make sure that your url has the keyword in it
- Page Title: Your page title should be your keyword, or at least it should contain your keyword, preferably in the order that you are targeting it.
- Page Header: Sometimes this one is hard to find. If you are publishing your article in an article directory they do it for you or they don't but you have no control over it, however, if you are posting something on your site, you need to have a H1, H2, or H3 tag with your keyword in it.
- Keyword Density: You have to use your keyword throughout the whole article. It needs to be in the introduction paragraph, in the conclusion paragraph and several times throughout the body. However, do not overuse it since it is also highly important that your article makes sense and that it has a good flow.
This is just the first part of generating leads for whatever business. If you are not trying to go broke within the first few months that you are online, I highly recommend that you chose the free traffic, too. I know it may seem like a lot of work compared to pay-per-click, but once your campaign is all setup and running the results are long lasting where as PPC ends they day you stop paying.
