Proper Cardiovascular

You can do ab exercises until you are blue in the face, but if you have layers of fat over your abs then who cares how many crunches you can do because your abs will never show. You need to cardio such as running, jogging, walking on an incline, or elliptical. Whatever you choose make sure to make it intense enough to burn the calories needed to shed the fat. Cardio should be done 3-4 time a week. Remember you can't spot reduce the abdominals by doing more ab exercises. You must first burn off the fat by doing cardio in order to get a more defined midsection.

Proper Weight Training


If you are looking to get bigger biceps or a bigger chest, would you do sets of 40-50 reps. No! You would ad resistance training with more weight. So if you're looking for chiseled abs why wouldn't you do the same. You need to add resistance in order to fully develop the abdominals. Add enough resistance in order to do 10-15 reps, 15 being the max. Train you abs twice a week. You don't need to train them more than that because the days you give them to rest is when the muscles grow.

Proper Nutrition

Let's focus on calorie intake first. In order to reduce body fat, you must burn more calories than you take in everyday. So it doesn't make sense to pig out during the day because that just makes you have to do that much more cardio. You must get the proper amount of protein, carbs, and fats in your diet. Try to aim at getting 50% of calories from protein, 40% from carbs, and 10% from fats. Protein is essential because these are building blocks for muscle. Carbohydrates supply your body energy, but beware of carbs from refined sugars, fruit juices, syrup, and even too much fruit and can be detrimental to your abs. Try to eat five to six meals per day. Spread them out every 2-3 hours. This keeps your metabolism at its peak as well as keeping you from getting hungry and eating something that is bad for you. Drink plenty of water. If possible, drink a gallon of water per day. This will keep hunger at bay as well as replenishing your muscles and flushing out toxins.

With the proper cardio, weight training, and nutrition you will be on your way to that six-pack you and everyone else desires.
