How To Get Better Broadband Signal
A complete lack of signal is a thorn in the side of many a travailing mobile phone and mobile broadband user so how do you get better signal?
Being in the right place at the right time is often thought to be the only option but there are many more.
For example, some broadband providers in the UK have come up with signal sharing schemes which can be taken into account when considering broadband deals.
Anyone looking to take advantage of their providers's scheme will have to sign up to it, with a representatives explaining that they wanted users to sign up so they could explained the scheme properly and no one will be shocked when another provider's name appears on the screen even when taking advantage of the fastest broadband.
Users who have signed up to the service should have received a sim card update that will now mean that if there is no signal from one provider the users will be able to use signal from the other and vice versa, all this is dependent on one or the other having network coverage in the area.
Initial early reports are good but some have been complaining of a long wait for the sim update and some further complaints of data disruptions.
There are no plans for the other two major networks despite talks which proved to be fruitless don't expect any signal swapping between the two any time soon.
Plans for 3G network sharing are in the pipelines but unfortunately Everything Everywhere who run the two networks brands didn't release any details of a 3G network swapping scheme, which many smart phone and mobile broadband users will be wishing for. Rumours have been indicating to some integration plans coming forward in the next year.
It will be interesting to see how they work around the 3G signal swapping as mobile provider Three who currently share their 2G signal coverage with Orange currently but are not taking part in the signal swapping scheme, don't seem too keen on taking part in similar schemes.
Just how successful the 2G scheme is will affect how many providers will want to get involved in the 3G sharing scheme, with more and more phones and mobile broadband products depending on a good 3G signal.
All the major networks sharing their 3G signal could spell the end for WiFi hotspots and a massive increase in the uptake of 15GB mobile broadband products.
Of course this is all pure speculation for the moment but data hungry mobile users will be salivating at the mouth at the possibility of a shared 3G network; let's just hope all the networks can get along just long enough to make it happen.
