Shirdi, a religious town situated in the district of Ahmednagar in the state of Maharashtra

, is famous by a 20th century saint, Sai Baba. He stepped into the village at the age of 16 and lived here for over 50 years. Sai Baba is said to be a manifestation of Lord Shiva. He lived his entire life to uplift the poor and downtrodden people. Devotees believe that Sai Baba can heal the deepest wound of the devotees. This Sai Land is visited by several devotees throughout the year.

This 3 sq km land of Shirdi is situated 297 km from Mumbai. Sai Baba died in the year 1918. A lot of devotees throng here for the darshan of the idol of the Baba and the sacred fire that burns here. The government is planning for the development of the village for the 100th anniversary of Sai Baba in 2018. The Shirdi Temple complex covers an area of 200 sq m and consists of Gurusthan, Khandoba, Samadhi Mandir, Chavadi and Dwarkamai.

Pune, a fast growing city of Maharashtra, is situated at the confluence of two rivers Mula and Mutha. Known as the cultural capital of the state, Pune has a glorious history of 1600 years old. The city has several important educational institutions and the city is often called the Oxford of the East. Some of the famous institutions in Pune are Armed Forces Medical College, Film and Television Institute of India, Symbiosis Educational Society and National Defense Academy. Pune is also known as Punya Nagari (The Queen of Deccan). Some of the attractions of Pune include Pataleshwar rock-cut temple and the War Memorial for the great Maratha heroes.


Shirdi does not have an airport. So the only way to travel this distance is by rail and road. Manmad is the nearest railway station to Shirdi which connects to Pune. Trains are available from Manmad to Shirdi. It takes altogether 7 hours to reach Shirdi from Pune.

Bus is an option to travel from Pune to Shirdi. There are frequent private buses available that cost you around Rs. 170/- to Rs. 1200/- for a trip depending upon the facilities.

Taxis charge Rs. 3800/- to reach Pune to Shirdi. This cab is for four people. For seven people it costs Rs. 4800/- for a round trip.

If you have your own vehicle it takes approximately 3 hours to cover the distance of 185 km depending upon the vehicle.
