How To Get Motivated to Exercise in 5 Minutes


Getting motivated to start exercising is one of the most difficult things anyone is met with.

It seems we always find reasons we don't have enough time or we mean to do it, but don't schedule it into our day and, voila, it's bedtime. "Oh well, I'll start tomorrow." And the cycle continues.

If you can just do it today then you're well on your way. While you put vacuuming, laundry, picking up groceries, and buying your child's friend's birthday present on the list, at the top, in BOLD letters and as PRIORITY should be exercise. Without SOME exercise, you're preventing yourself from living your best life.


Exercise has been shown to

improve focus,

improve memory,

increase energy,

improve a body's health inside and out,

improve motivation,

improve our moods,

increase success rate in things we do,

decrease illnesses,

decrease likelihood of diseases,

decrease inches,

increase finding happiness within.

Amazing that even a simple walk around the block a few days a week can do all that, and more!! It doesn't take much to literally take that first step. Plan on walking, swiftly, for 5 minutes today. It doesn't matter how far you go, just set your clock and walk for 5 minutes. Tomorrow, add a minute and repeat each day.

My motivation for first and Finally getting off my butt and exercising was being tired with myself for not doing the things I set out to do and not seeing any results in satisfactorily losing the pregnant baby belly from my 1st two kids; 4 years after the last was born. I didn't make any New Year's Resolutions. I didn't TELL anyone my goals, heck, I didn't even Make any goals. I sought out two gyms by my house, checked what they had to offer, negotiated to fit my budget, and, BAM! I was in!

But that was the easy part, signing up as a member at a gym. We all know there are way too many wasted dollars spent on things we don't use and my guess is gym memberships are probably the biggest money waster out there, simply because people don't use it!!

I got to know the gym workers. This made me feel like I needed to show my face!! After I signed up, I said, "See you Monday!" I made a commitment.

The first 2 weeks are really hard to keep that motivation going. I went 4-5 days for each of those 2 weeks. Consider this to be the equivalent of walking 5 minutes the first day and adding a minute to each walk for another 3-4 days this week. Believe me, it makes a difference.

After those first two weeks, the adrenaline in my body would kick in from just thinking about working out . . . okay, well maybe not, but my body was finally in auto-mode where it CRAVED the exercise. The adrenaline and endorphins that kick in from exercise become an addiction, a good addiction that motivates me to keep it up!!

After about 6-8 weeks, I noticed I was firmer, all around and, while, my waist was looking a lot better, my abs weren't what I expected. EIGHT WEEKS and I didn't have Abs of Steel, c'mon!!!

That's when I started researching what I was doing wrong and how to set things right.

Within a week later, I saw results!! YES! Real results on my abs..... not abs of steel but getting there . . .


You see. It's the hardest thing to get started, it can take weeks to keep going, but once you get over that hump, your body, like mine, will feel the new habit and push you to keep up the good work. You'll find yourself Making time to exercise, wanting to do new exercises, losing the inches, losing the weight, losing the waddle, firming and toning where you didn't know you could be firmed and toned, being more focused and actually listening to what your wife says, remembering where you left your car keys, finding the energy to finally know what up and at 'em means, and having the interest to live life, successfully.

I had a baby 6 months ago. During my pregnancy, I didn't work out regularly like some women do . . . though I wish I had. I find myself intermittently exercising - meaning I fit in 3 days one week but not at all another week. I have a whole new set of timetables, kids' schedules, and household work while my husband has worked out of state the past 3 months to factor into planning. I'm already up at 6am to get my daughter off to school and that's after waking with the baby twice+ a night. I have from 7-8 to get MY stuff done before my 2 boys require me to get into action for the day for them!! Do I take 20 minutes of that time to exercise . . . .? I'm finding that I'll have to. On days I don't do it, I'm finding 10 minutes of yoga at the end of the day eases my muscles, relaxes my mind, and makes my back feel better than any masseuse ever has.

Today I am counting as DAY 1 to exercise. My goal? 3 days a week, get my entire body back into shape, and flatten these abs again!! Join me. I'll let you know what I do to give you ideas.
