How To Get The Best From Cosmetics
Cosmetics are wondrous products, essential to any modern woman's dressing table
. They can make you feel a million dollars and ready to face the world, disguise a multitude of night-before sins, and give you the confidence you need to look and feel great.
However, mastering the application of cosmetics is an art form, and you never stop learning. Matching the exact shades and colours to bring out the best in your face can make all the difference between looking healthy and blooming, and looking pale and washed out.
Firstly, it's important to get the correct colour of foundation to give your face a healthy, flawless base on which to build upon. If you are lucky enough to have flawless skin already that is evenly toned, during the day you could simply wear a tinted moisturiser, which will give you the slightest covering without masking any of your skin's natural radiance.
Most people have some sort of uneven toning to their skin that they would like to cover, whether that is natural red patches, acne scarring or simply dark under-eye shadows, and this is easily achieved by using the correct cosmetics and make up brushes.
Firstly, select a foundation that EXACTLY matches your skin colour. The most common mistake made with foundation is selecting one that is too dark in the misguided belief that this will add a tanned or healthy-glow effect to the face. In reality, what a foundation that is too dark will do is make the face look orange, and leave obvious 'tide marks' around the jaw line.
When selecting a foundation to match your skin, try a couple around the jaw line, and blend. You're looking for the one that disappears when looked at in natural light. Select a large soft make up brush for the application of powder foundation; this will really distribute it finely and evenly.
Colour, or a healthy glow, should be added with the help of a blusher for the cheeks. A good rule of thumb for selecting the right cosmetics for the cheeks is this: choose a few different colours that you like, put each one on to your face somewhere, and choose the one that most closely matches the shade of your lips. This will be the colour that is most suited to your face and colouring. Apply with a round blusher brush to swirl and blend around your cheeks.
Eyeliner is important if you wish to make your eyes really stand out. Unless you have dark hair and naturally dark eyelashes and eyebrows, choose a brown eye pencil, as black can often look too harsh and drawn-on on lighter skin tones. You're looking here for a kohl pencil that is soft and easy to apply; you don't want to be dragging and scraping it across your eyelids to draw a line.
Finally, follow with a double coating of good quality mascara, and you are ready to step out in your new cosmetics.
