How To Get The Most From Microblogging On Twitter
If you want to use microblogging to promote your business
, then you will want to use Twitter. Twitter is the most popular microblogging service on the internet, with millions of users and millions of visitors. In fact, it's one of the 50 most popular websites on the internet. So, if you are looking for traffic, and you want to build an audience, then consider this site.
The first step is to sign up for an account. You will want to choose a username that reflects either you or your business. In my case, I use my name because I am an internet marketer and author, and I want others to connect my name with my products and services.
Complete your profile. You don't have but about 160 characters to tell the world about who you are, so make them count. Create a custom background that reflects your business and who you are. There are plenty of free graphics tools on the internet you can use, and you may even be able to find backgrounds to buy that you can customize yourself. Make sure your background reflects your business and tells more about it because it can help you get noticed. That also means including the URLs to your website, as well as social information like Facebook and Linkedin.
Next, you'll want to start following people. Look for those in your industry that are the most popular and then follow them. You never know. They may start to follow you, and it would allow you to connect with them on a deeper level, as well as getting their followers to follow you. The sad fact is, only about 20 percent of people on Twitter have a following of 1000 or more, so if you want to be followed, then you'll have to put in some effort here to attract others to your profile.
When you have everything in your account set up, and you've started to get some followers, then start tweeting. If you have long links, then you will want to shorten them because each character counts, and you want to make sure you have enough room to say what you need to say. You only have 140 characters, so make sure they count.
Mix up your tweets. You don't want to write about business all the time. That would be boring. Instead, get a little personal. Share things you like and things you are interested in. Let others get to know you and your personality. It gives you credibility.
Answer tweets that are made to you. Both private and public. Introduce yourself personally to each of your new followers. This pays off because it allows you to build relationships with your followers, further building your credibility.
