How To Get The Most Out Of Your Hdtv

We all could do with some guidance regarding how a flat screen LCD TV could be best set up for optimum viewing

. There are a few considerations to be made before you set up your TV which you have just purchased, or contemplating in buying one.

You might consider putting your TV on one of the walls with a wall bracket and also would want to connect the sound system in a manner where you can have a perfect digital surround sound. You could also think of putting your TV on a stand and often wonder what colour would best suit your environment. There are several ways you can configure in setting up your LCD TV, but remember that there could be hundreds of things that could go wrong. However there are a few things that you must consider in setting up your TV, and by doing this you would be definitely getting the most from the investment you have made or about to make.

The right screen size for your room:

This is a vital matter. You would want a sharp and comfortable viewing. For this your LCD TV should have the right screen size for the room you have. No doubt we are most impressed by the screen size of such TVs, and we generally opt for larger screen. When you look at a 60 inch display screen, you do tend to get easily carried away. This size could be too large for the room where you are going to set up your TV. Unlike the standard-definition TVs, the viewing distance from the screen of a flat panel LCD TV, as a thumb rule, should be 1.5 times the width of your TV which is the minimum distance of viewing. Therefore, this would mean that if you buy a 60 inch screen size TV the minimum distance of viewing should be 90 inches or 2.3 meters. With all the furniture included in the room, a 60 inch TV could be too large for your room.

For a standard-definition TV the comfort zone for viewing is set at a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size, where-as for a HDTV the resolution is so great that you can easily have a perfect viewing from a much closer distance from the display panel and you would not notice the pixels on the screen. Hence, for a HDTV the distance of viewing could be anywhere between 1.5 to 3 times the size of your TV.

The audio system of your HDTV:

You may be a movie enthusiast and would love that surround sound. If you are just watching News, TV shows and documentary style programs, the existing audio system could be good enough. Otherwise you would need to invest a little more for setting up your TV in the style of a Home theater. In doing so you need to consider whether the audio output is sufficient for the room. If you have a large room, then you might have to invest more on having a larger audio output considering the size of your room. In setting up your audio system correctly, you would find the TV programs to be much more involving.

What is your best viewing position?

You need to get a proper viewing position in order to enjoy watching your programs. You could be comfortable with your HDTV on its stand, or your sitting posture could be such that you are comfortable with your TV on the wall. In some instances you could also have the TV hanging from the ceiling of your room. In selecting your viewing position you need to consider which is most comfortable to you. Generally you should set up your HDTV at a place where the screen remains at your eye level or slightly higher. If your viewing style changes, your TV could be mounted higher up on the wall and you would prefer to watch your TV lying back with your eyes looking up. It is not recommended that you have your TV lower than your eye level so that you have to look down to watch your programs.

Finally - connecting your TV:

As a finishing touch in setting up your HDTV, you need to have your TV's connections and calibration done properly in order to get the best performance. Remembering that you have a digital TV and all signal inputs to your TV being digital, you are dealing with the most modern state-of-art TV technology.

You would need HDMI connectivity for your TV which is generally accepted as the best and easiest way to connect incoming digital signals to your TV. The other alternative is DVI connectivity, but this sort of connection does not carry audio signals. The colour calibration also needs adjustments for optimum viewing and if you are not aware of the procedure, you might consider in hiring a technician to calibrate your TV for you.

The above brief notes on the various aspects of setting up your HDTV should give you an idea as to how you can get the most out of your TV.
