How To Get To The Munich Oktoberfest
The Oktoberfest is held every year in Munich in a famous place called Theresienwiese
. Do not expect it to be a closed off location though as it can be accessed from any point of the compass. However, when you come to the Munich Oktoberfest, do not enter Theresienwiese just anywhere since there are gentle hills and greens around, especially on the west side.
If you are going to the Munich Oktoberfest, forget about travelling there by car. A taxi cab would be nice but you should be prepared for the enormous traffic jams as you get closer to the festival. If you bring your own car you will not be able to find a parking space, and it does not make sense to do it in the restricted zones that are around Theresienwiese. Your car will surely be towed off. You should also bear in mind that you might be drinking one or two bottle of beers, so you should not driver afterwards.
You must then use the public transportation when you go to the Munich Oktoberfest, which is managed by the MVG. Basically you have a couple of options. You can either use the S-Bahn or suburban train or the U-Bahn or underground railway. The nearest station of the S-Bahn is the Hackerbrcke and every suburban line stops there. From the station, you only have to walk for 10 minutes to reach the north portal of the main entrance.
On the other hand if you choose to take the U-Bahn, you can go to the Theresienwiese station, which are lines U4 and U5, and it will bring you to the north entrance of the festival directly. Thus, the station is almost always packed with commuters and considering alternatives would be a good idea. You may for example utilize the Poccistrae or Goetheplatz stations, which are served by lines U3 and U6. From the stations it is a relaxed ten minute stroll to the southern and eastern entrance of the festival.
Every tent has its own mood, which makes them unique in a particular way. Try to see all of them when you go to the Munich Oktoberfest. However, since the festival is popular with tourists and locals, your real concern is where to find a place. This is especially true during weekends when the fest becomes really crowded. You could consider yourself lucky if you can get a table or seat without reservation. The situation gets worse if it is cold or rainy. Thus if you manage to get a seat, try to stay in the tent for as long as you can. There is a big chance that you will not be able to go into the other tents. If ever you do, you will not get a seat.
Usually, the crowd is spread evenly on all tents and you can use the situation in your current tent to gauge the situation in the other tents. If your own tent is not crowded, the other tents must not be crowded as well.
