To some it could seem an impossible task to get rid of vinyl letters from used cargo vans
. If done correct, it will come off very in short order. I will give you the correct way step by step. 1. Initially you will want to begin with a clean finish on the painted areas. (wipe down the used cargo van) 2. Using a heat gun (worse case you can use a blow dryer), begin to slowly warm the vinyl lettering enough to soften it, but not enough to bubble the vinyl. 3. Begin taking off the stripes or lettering with your fingernail or something else like a plastic putty knife. You may have heard of or seen someone else using a razorblade to do this but I'll let you know that it is most assuredly not the proper and clean way to do it. It possibly gouges or scratches the finish and you will not be satisfied with the results. 4. You will need to heat a little area and pull until it starts to tear again. Then begin warming the lettering again. 5. After all the lettering is off of the van or truck you will have glue residue left on the finish. You will then endeavor to use enamel reducer absorbed on a shop towel and get the glue wet enough to start breaking up. After a time it will start to roll up for you and you can continue to wipe it until the glue is all removed. 6. Once and a while a paint ghost will be become visible behind the vinyl lettering and it will need to be buffed out with a machine polisher. 7. The ending step is to wash the vehicle again to neutralize the solvents left on the clearcoat. Then you will desire to wax over the affected areas. Leaving paint stripped of a wax finish will cause premature oxidation and cracking.
