1. Be Brief

When giving a compliment, get straight to the point. Say it and be done with it. Do not go on and or else you risk your compliment sounding insincere.

2. Give Reasons

To make your compliment sound more sincere, give them together with a reason to back up your compliment. Instead of saying "I like your shirt", say something like "I like your shirt because of those exquisite red little buttons."

3. Third Person Mode

When you compliment someone to their face, you risk sounding insincere. A better way to do this would be to tell the compliment to a third party and have them pass it on to the person your compliment was originally intended for. Select this third party wisely. They should be someone close to the intended person so that the chances of your compliment reaching the intended person will be higher.

4. Compliment The Little Things

Notice the little things about people and compliment them about it. They are likely to be grateful that you noticed something so small about them. They will not only be grateful that you complimented them but also delighted that you actually remembered what they had mentioned in passing earlier.

7. Phrase Positively Than Negatively

Phrase your compliments in a positive manner rather than a negative one. For example, instead of saying "I can't believe you did it", say "I'm impressed with what you did". Phrasing your compliment in the negative way, however good your intentions may be, may come across to be rather condescending.
