How To Have A Hassle-free Vacation
Vacationing is supposed to allow you plenty of time to relax
, unwind, and forget your worries for awhile. However, how many of you have found yourself needing a vacation from your vacation? You over-plan, run into problems, or find yourself in the midst of your children's tantrums.
So, how can you make sure that your vacation is truly a rejuvenating experience? As a pro-vacationer myself, I can share with you my best advice so that you don't have to come home groaning.
Decide on a budget, and stick to it! This is the first step because it will determine all of your following steps. It should even help dictate where you select as your destination. But it is vital that you stay under your set limit because nothing ruins an otherwise enjoyable getaway like coming home to a steep credit card balance.
Even if you "deserve it," you can't go overboard. It helps to do plenty of research on the activities you want to do beforehand. You may even want to look up possible souvenirs you might like before you make the trip. These will help you formulate categories ("activities," "transportation," "souvenirs," etc.) and allot certain dollar amounts to them.
When it comes to booking a trip, especially to popular destinations or when going abroad, choose the off-season. This will help you find a deal on airfare; plus, you are less likely to run into crowds, which can bar you from doing things you would otherwise want to do.
Crowds can cause stress, and stress can ruin a vacation. So even if you can't choose an off-peak time, you may want to avoid the typical tourist attractions and try to seek the local "hidden gems." Talk to a travel agent who has actually frequented the area you hope to visit, or try to talk to natives of the region.
If you are, in fact, going to be flying, check out customs regulations and TSA rules before both flights, especially if it's been awhile since you have flown anywhere.
Consider the length of your flight and everything you will need to be comfortable. Make yourself a little travel kit. You should also be sure to dress in layers. I have been on flights that have been both very hot and very cold, and I was usually not prepared for either.
When thinking about accommodation, weigh your options. Bed and breakfasts, hotels, and rentals are all fairly different. The wide array of travel sites online allow you to see reviews, but you should ultimately make your own decision on what's best for you. After all, it's your vacation, and you need to decide what will make it the most memorable.
