How To Have A Snow-free Winter Vacation
So you want to take a winter vacation, but you (and/or your family) are not the type to take up skiing or experiment with snowboarding
. In fact, snow is just not your thing at all. That puts you in a bit of a predicament. How do you have a winter getaway without all the fluffy white stuff?
The answer is actually pretty simple. The western side of our country has plenty of wide open space, totally void of snow all winter long. This is true for much of California, Arizona, and Nevada. That is not to mention areas of Texas, Florida, and the South.
These might seem like limited choices, but believe me, when you start to consider everything you can do in these regions, you will be thrilled by the possibilities ahead of you.
Before you choose a destination, you will want to consider the activities you most enjoy during all times of the year. For example, if you are an avid golfer, then there are plenty of resorts that feature courses on-site, all in the plush comfort of warm weather (at least comparatively speaking), with a spa a stone's throw away.
Take a visit to the beach. While the breeze blowing in from the ocean is bound to be chilly, you can still enjoy some of the same activities you might during summer, especially with the help of a wetsuit.
In California, the temperature of the Pacific Ocean remains fairly consistent throughout the year--it is mostly the condition of the outside air that makes it feel so cold. So as long as you are prepared, you can still enjoy the delight of playing in the sea--whether that is through surfing, jet skiing, or sailing is up to you!
Look into renting a cabin. The winter months are often the off-season, but it is still a good idea to book as far in advance as possible. But with a vacation rental, you don't need to worry so much about how to accommodate the whole family.
Plus, if you are planning on getting away for the holidays, a rental usually offers a full-service kitchen, not to mention cozy socializing space, which will allow you to host a party if you have other friends or family either tagging along or in the area you choose to go to.
Winter is still subject to volatile weather in many areas, even if that is only temperature fluctuations or rainstorms. So be prepared. Dress in layers and think of plenty of things to do indoors. You can enjoy your vacation, totally snow-free.
