How To Help Your Feet Look Good In Sandals

When the weather hots up and the sleeves and the hemlines get shorter

, you know that you're just a blink away from shunning your fashion boots and practical lace-ups and dipping your toes into the lightweight comfort of summery sandals. What to do with those feet and toes that have been hiding in the dark recesses of socks, tights and shoes throughout the colder months?

Getting your feet into tip-top condition for the summer months doesn't have to be a chore. If you follow this simple three step routine you can quickly and easily give your feet the pampering they deserve and they'll soon be looking and feeling fantastic for the latest summer fashion sandals.

First, exfoliate your feet. Remove dead or rough skin by using a foot scrub. For harder skin try a gentle rub with a pumice stone or foot file. Remember to pay particular attention to your heels, as this is where you are most likely to have thickened, hard skin.

After that, tend to your toenails. The best way to trim your toenails is to cut them straight across using proper nail clippers or nail scissors. Be careful not to cut them too short and never cut down the sides as this can cause in-growing toenails. Finish off by using a nail file to smooth off any rough edges.

Finish by moisturising. Most of us remember to moisturise our face and our hands but forget that our feet love moisture too! Apply a good moisturising cream freely and use a foot spray to refresh your feet. A quick tip for added indulgence, and to keep heels feeling happy, is to put cream around the heels and then cover with a pair of cotton socks overnight.

If you're planning to glam those toes with nail polish then always use a base coat which will give your nails added protection, and don't leave polish on too long as it could cause your nails to go yellow.

To maintain optimum cleanliness, feet should be washed daily in lukewarm water using a mild soap and then dried thoroughly. Changing shoes or sandals regularly will also help.

When choosing women's sandals think about where you'll be wearing them and for how long. If you'll be tackling rough terrain or spending long days out sight-seeing in warmer climes then comfort sandals are a priority. Make sure that there's lots of support under foot and an adjustable fastening to keep your foot firmly in place and allow for any adjustment if your feet swell in the heat. Half sizes and extra width options are always an asset because they will help ensure a perfect fit getting that right is absolutely vital, especially if you're packing for a holiday or going to spend days away from home.

If you're planning an evening out or going to a special event, then heel height could be more flexible but comfort should always be key because the pain of uncomfortable sandals will show on your face and spoil your whole evening! Look for good fastenings and adjustability, a flexible and supporting sole and breathable leather or nubuck uppers and your feet will be feeling as fresh and fit at the end of the night as they were at the start.
