Smaller rooms tend to suit contemporary French furniture, whereas middle sized rooms and those with plenty of natural lighting benefit from rococo or shabby chic. For much larger properties with plenty of room the baroque or even neo-Classical period can offer much inspiration, but whatever style of French furniture you choose, make sure you stick to one style throughout the decoration of the whole room for the proper effect.
