Exercise and sleep, both improves the memory: physical exercise contributes to the well-being of the brain as well. It increases oxygen supply to the brain and thus keeps it healthy. It also helps to keep diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular diseases at bay. These diseases often have damaging effects on the human brain and often lead to loss of memory. If you give your body optimum amount of exercise, some protective brain chemicals will be released which will protect your brain.
Like optimum amount of exercise, your brain needs optimum amount of sleep as well. The brain can operate fully when you give it proper rest. Whether you are studying, or you are working, a deficit in the amount of sleep will not work in your favour. Studies reveal that memory consolidation can take place only when the brain gets optimum amount of sleep.
Maintain healthy relationships with people around you: we are very much a part of the society and cannot live alone. Maintaining a good relationship with the people you have in your life and maintaining a healthy level of interaction with everyone helps to stimulate your brain. A research conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health reveals that memory decline is really slow in people who have a very active social life. So go out and socialize with people and try to remain cheerful and happy.
Keep your stress levels low: stress is very damaging for your brain. If you are a victim of stress, over a period of time your brain cells will get damaged. Meditation is a wonderful way by which you can keep your stress levels low. It helps to relax your mind, improve focus, improve concentration etc. Meditation also helps to increase your mind power. With this increased mind power you can accomplish your task taster than ever.
Increase your intake of such food which makes your brain healthy: there are foods which are known to improve your memory. Foods that are rich in omega 3 such as these fishes tuna, mackerel, sardines, and herring are very good for your brain. Omega 3 is also present in some nuts and seeds such as walnut, pumpkin seeds, soybeans, ground flaxseeds etc. omega 3 rich foods are known to increase IQ.
Fresh fruits and vegetables are also considered as brain food. Stick to colorful fruits which as they are rich sources of antioxidants.
Intake of wine in moderation is good for the brain. Red wine is especially good for the brain. But you should monitor the amount you take in.
