How To Incorrectly Play In Role Playing Games

Role playing games come in all shapes and sizes

. There are role playing games in chat rooms, LARPing (live action role playing), massive multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPGs), and table-top RPGs, to name a few. Here, we'll be going over the don't of playing in table-top RPGs.

Tabletop RPGs are a dime a dozen. However, they all have a common element, a common set of rules. I'm not talking about system rules, I'm referring to the rules of social etiquette at the gaming table.

You won't find rules for playing a role in any of the RPGs. Here are the rules that everyone knows (or should know) but aren't really written anywhere. If you're a gamer, you'll understand if you keep reading.

#1: There will be no cheating players. Your character sheet must be filled out correctly. Your dice may not be "loaded" or shaved, and they must not be "cheater dice."

#2: There will be no dictating players. There will be no objections to how others play their character in the game. You will only worry about how you play your character, because you would not want anyone else to control yours.

3) There will be no powergamers. It's OK to want your character to be good in a certain area or skill. It is not OK to play a sheet of stats; you're playing a character.

No metagamers!. Your character is not omnipresent; he doesn't know everything. When you figure something out that your character would have no chance of figuring out, keep it to yourself.

5) There are no godmoders. Take powergaming, add that to metagaming, and you get godmoding. The godmoder is the worst offender because he must win in any situation by whatever means. This is simply not allowed, end of story.
