How To Increase Your Google AdSense Earnings

Google AdSense is probably one of the easiest programs online for making an income

. At least for those who have decent earnings it is. Unfortunately, many people who are trying to make some money using this program find that it isn't quite as easy as they may have expected at first. However, with a bit of persistence, and a bit of guidance, you can easily increase your earnings.

The first suggestion may sound obvious, but you will almost definitely increase your AdSense earnings if you increase the traffic going to your website. Generally speaking, only a percentage of website visitors will click on an ad. Without having to do anything to improve this percentage, simply increasing your traffic will increase your income. Without a high volume of traffic, it is unlikely you will make much income from AdSense at all.

If you are already getting a high volume of traffic, there are a number of things you can do to increase your earnings. Generally speaking, the trick here will be to increase the percentage of visitors who click on your ads, known as your click-through rate, or CTR. To improve your CTR, you will probably need to test several different things.

Your page layout is one thing you can test to improve the CTR. Sometimes, something as simple as changing your page header, or moving a menu from one side to the other, can dramatically improve this statistic. In addition to that, you'll want to test the placement of advertisements on your page. Conventional wisdom holds that ads below the header and above the fold perform the strongest, but this isn't always true. Test placements in any place where it makes sense in your page layout to see where your ads work best.

The format and design of the ads can play a big role in performance as well. Google offers many different size ad blocks, with differing numbers of ads. They offer image ads as well. Test these variations to see what works best. You should also test different color variations for text ads, making them blend in better or stand out more from your site. You won't really know what works best on your site until you've thoroughly tested it.

One more thing you can test on your site is the number of ad blocks you include. The program limits sites to three blocks per page, along with three link units. While it may seem logical that the more ads you have, the better your revenue will be, this may not be the case. Because Google ad placements are bid on by advertisers, the more expensive ads typically are shown first. By limiting the number of ads, possibly even down to one single ad block, you may get higher priced ads, which can result in higher earnings overall.

Similar to getting higher click prices by limiting the number of ads, you may be able to increase the price paid by advertisers by targeting more expensive keywords. Provided that the keyword draws enough interest to supply sufficient traffic volume on the page, going for a higher priced keyword can definitely have the effect of increasing your AdSense earnings.
