How To Install Different Prefinished Hardwood Floors

Prefinished hardwood is produced by two types of manufacturers - an engineer and solid wood

. Each of them has its advantages during installation, but perhaps both of these materials have one big problem that you have to face at least once in your career.

To increase the numbers of material colors, prefinished floor is often covered by different stains with several layers of lacquer on the manufacturer's plant. Customers often prefer to install prefinished hardwood, because they will have the ability to see how their future floor will look.

Customers, often inspired by a discount declared on this or any other material in the store, buy it without consulting with professionals. Only some time after the purchase they hire a floor installer to replace the flooring.

The floor installer will take a quick glance at the number of boxes, collated, to make sure it matches the color shown on them and then he starts the installation. The room where the work is done gradually gets a nice and cozy look. But here's another box with the material, opened by the installer, and he sees that the shade of all pieces of the wood in this box have a different color from the hardwood that was already installed! This can happen when the installer uses artificial lighting and can't determine the different shades. Only the next day after installation, he noticed his mistake under natural light.

Why do these situations happen, who was responsible for them, and more importantly, how are these problems to be avoided?

If all of the boxes have same company logo and the color indicated is the same, but the tone was different, it means that the material purchased by the client was made at the factory at different times. The manufacturer is not liable when vendors sell mixed material.

Could the customer guess that the material in the boxes is different? The seller could indicate this, if the buyer had inquired about it. The seller was honest - he sold a material from different batches with a low price. No one will blame the customer, because he is always right. But who will be responsible for what happened? The floor installer! He neglected his responsibilities and did not check the batch number on all boxes before he started the installation.

If you are in a situation like this, I sincerely sympathize with you, since all the expenses for this error are on the floor installer himself. Now let's discuss what you need to do to not get into that situation.

Even before the installation of the material, always check not only the logo and color of the material, but the batch number as well. If you notice there is a different number, report it immediately to the customer. It should be replaced immediately, but if this is not possible, there is no reason to worry. Suggest to the customer the idea to mix all boards together and get his approval. Now open up several boxes of different series and install the hardwood, mixing the different shades thoroughly. This is the simplest solution. Mixed floor often looks quite elegant and modern.
