How To Install Hardwood Floors
This article will detail the installation of hardwood floors in your home
. It will tell you what you need to know to get the job done yourself and above all else, get that job done right. You might be surprised to learn that this process isn't all that difficult if you are aware of what you are doing.
If you are reading over this article in particular, than I can venture a guess that you have recently determined that a floor area in your home has become rather unsightly and would really like to replace it. You might also be considering selling the home, and realize the difference that proper and new looking floors could mean for the final sale value.
So, instead of paying some team of people to come in and complete this task for you, you could save a good deal of money doing it on your own. You can employ the help of some trusted friends or family that are willing to work for next to nothing, or nothing at all for that matter.
There are several steps to this process and I will do my best to lay out everything you need to know to lay down this floor after you have purchased the material and it has found its way to the site of the installation. After this time, the real work and the need to be very attentive to detail becomes incredibly important to the final result.
It all begins with the removal of whatever the floor that you had before. This will include both the carpet or whatever the floor is, and the padding that is underneath of it, if this applies. Some might have this padding underneath, and others might not. So either way, this needs to be cleared out and the floor needs to be prepped to receive hardwood floors. You can do this preparation by using effective cleaning agents and elbow grease to ensure that all remnants of the former flooring are gone and the foundation is smooth.
You then want to lay down rosin paper. This will help keep vapors out, and will also help to cushion the floor under the later installed hardwood. You want to lay this down a single strip at a time, and carefully cut it from the roll. You don't want to damage the rest of that roll by being careless here. After you complete this step, and adhere the paper, you are ready to lay down the actual pieces of the floor.
This will likely only come in a couple of different ways, and the best part is, for most of them all of the pieces interlock with each other to provide a tight bond. That is a very important step as well, because you have to make sure that the pieces fit flush against the others, you do not want gaps or bumps here. So make sure to take your time and do it right.
You run your starter boards with glue, but the other pieces will be held into place by nails that are driven under the surface. They will later be filled in with a compound so that you never even know that they're there. And that is all she wrote. You have new hardwood floors that you put in yourself.
