? When it comes to install sprinklers one might get a little confused by all the different heads nozzle and irrigation controllers on the market but when it comes down to it its actually pretty easy. Here is a list of what you will need to install a sprinkler system.

1)Irrigation controller: this is the main frame that will be running the system. There are many different types of controllers indoor models and outdoor models if your just putting in a system at your home one of the most popular irrigation timers is the Rain Bird ESP-4TM which is a 4 zone controller that you can put in your garage they also make a 6 & 8 station model. For commercial applications Hunter has just released the new Hunter I-Core series in which you can add modules that come in 6 stations for each module. This controller is probably one of the best out on the market right now and the controller can even sense line breaks or broken heads if you wish it to do so.

2)Valves: Based off how big your yard is you are going to need a valve for every area of coverage. The typical sized yard when running off normal city water is about 6 zones and you can usually get away with just using a 1inch valve on all zones. Hunter SRV valves are a good choice for homeowners. Big commercial application are usually high pressure systems that run off a pump and you usually tend to use 2 -3inch valves that can handle the higher pressures as well as increased water volume.

3)Sprinklers: This is the area where most people cant make up their mind in what sprinkler they should use. Sprinkler rotors are used for large areas or open areas. The most popular rotor is the Hunter PGP-ADJ the new line is the PGP Ultras which have new added features and you dont have to have the Hunter tool to adjust them. Sprinkler sprays are usually used for areas around sidewalks or areas that dont require as much long distance coverage. Spacing and placement on spray sprinklers is usually in the range of 10ft and you can find nozzles that fit the pattern you are looking for (full circle, half circle, quarter circle ect.)

4)Pipes: Piping your irrigation system can be difficult and you should have a professional do the drawing for you if your considering a large irrigation system as the pressure is going to have to be adequate in all areas and the pipe size is going to change over the course or distance the line is running. Most residential homes are pretty easy and usually have a 1inch main line that runs out to smaller inch lines that lead to the sprinklers.
