How To Install Wordpress On A Dedicated Server

Running a blog from your website is a great way to increase traffic

, give your customers more helpful information, and promote your business; and Wordpress is one of the best platforms to run your blog off of. But when you're running your website from a dedicated server, how do you install Wordpress on it?

If your dedicated server has a control panel that will run scripts such as Fantastico, installing Wordpress is very easy. Here there will be just one button that will take you through the entire installation process, making it very easy and extremely quick to get your blog up and running. If however you do not have this type of one-step installation, you will need to install Wordpress manually.

If you don't have cPanel on your site, use the control panel that you do have on your website to log into the MySQL interface phpMyAdmin. Once you're into this platform you can then check to find a pre-made Wordpress database; many of these interfaces will have this. However once again, it may not and if that's the case, you'll need to make one. You can do this by clicking on "Create" under the tab called "Create New Database." Once you've done so you'll be prompted to give a name for the database, and this should be "Wordpress."

The next step is to click on "Home," which will be located in the left-hand corner of the screen, and then click on "Privileges." At this point there most likely will not be any users, and so you'll need to click on "Add New User" and again, name it Wordpress. You'll need to create and enter a password, but leave all the options as the default options, for now at least.

Now you'll need to return to the Privileges screen and click on "Check Privileges." Click "Check All" so that all users can have permission, and then click on "Go." Then you'll have to go back to your control panel and log into your file manager. Create a folder named "Wordpress" and check the permissions in the drop-down menu above file content to see if it has 777 permission it should.

For the next step you'll need to find the FTP client on your computer's hard drive so that you can upload its contents to your Wordpress directory located in the Wordpress folder you just created in the control panel. Once that's finished, Wordpress can then actually be installed. To do this, open a web browser, enter your domain name but set the path to wp-admin/install.

Once the installation screen pops up, enter "Wordpress" as the name for both the database and the username, and type in the password that you created earlier. Leave the fields named "Database Host" and "Table Prefix" as they are. After this you will come to a screen that asks you to enter the domain name of your website, as well as create a new username and password. These will take you to the Wordpress administration section. Once there, all you have to do is enter your email and your installation is complete.

Now all you have to do is think about what your first blog post will be about and then write it!
