How To Interact With Ecommerce Customers

The world of e-commerce has exploded over the past decade and it appears that it will continue to do so for the foreseeable future

. There are literally billions of dollars spent on the internet and if your company is not capitalizing on that market it is time you look into it. Some of the common complaints that I hear are that the internet is not as personal as brick and mortar stores, its harder to get a read on your customers, no body language is seen on the internet. Although this is a viable obstacle there are more than enough solutions. Remember that e-commerce could double or even triple your business volume so its worth figuring out. The following is a short list of ideas to help you get the most from your clients.

1) Create the atmosphere your clients want- Think about the effect a room can have on you. There are some rooms that when you walk in you feel at ease. The room is clean, bright and cheerful, you immediately take on those same emotions. Your website can/will do the same thing. What are you trying to portray? If your selling gothic clothing a bright white background and pastel colored, smiling animals is probably not the emotion nor room your clients feel most comfortable in. Remember you need to think from your clients prospective, what are they looking for?

2) Let them comment- We live in a day and age where people want to voice their opinion. Even if their opinion is that they have no opinion, let them express that. You need to make sure that your clients have a chance to comment on your site and company. Let them tell you what they think, but more importantly make sure you are listening. You may get some feedback that doesn't seem to agree with the general consensus; however, if a majority of people are saying the same thing, then its time to change.

3) Post reviews- Ask your clients to review your product. Not only is this great, free market research but it will help create a sticky factor. Once your client reviews your product let them know you read the review and are acting accordingly, everybody likes to know that they are being heard. This will also help you sell more product, a recent study showed that 78% of people prefer peer recommendations over any advertising your company may do.

4) Send out surveys- Once a client has purchased a product or even just visited your site, make sure you follow up with them. It is easier to keep a client than it is to get a new one, so make sure you keep in touch. An easy way to do that is ask them to fill out a short survey about their experience (if you really want this to be effective give them something for filling out the survey, anything will work, people love FREE stuff). Not only does this create a sticky factor but will provide you with valuable information on how to improve your site, and your clients e-commerce experience. Remember e-commerce is an exploding industry and is a ton of fun and you can have just as much if not more interaction with your clients through social media.
