How To Keep Bugs From Invading Your Home

Nobody wants bugs in their house, but unfortunately some may occasionally make their way in

. The occasional bug indoors is not a big deal and means little more than a door was left open a second too long or a wayward insect attached itself to someone on their way from the car. However, if you are looking at hundreds of little critters invading your home, you have a problem on your hands. Even just a few more than one or two bugs a month is probably too much to have you feeling comfortable living in your indoor space. One of the benefits of shelter is being protected from outdoor creatures that bite, sting, leave droppings, and otherwise annoy. If you want to avoid having your home invaded by unwanted pests, there are a number of things you can do to limit the number of bugs you deal with indoors.

Your first line of defense should be to keep critters as far away from your property as possible. There are bound to be plenty of bugs in the outdoors and in many cases they are necessary. Bees need to pollante the flowers and other creatures are helpful in your garden in other ways. However, some insects serve no good purpose in your living environment and you want to push them to the outer limits of your yard. Spraying your yard for unwanted pests makes your outdoor living environment more pleasant and prevents bugs from sneaking in the door with residents. Treatments applied once or twice a year should be good enough to reduce the unwanted pests in your backyard.

When you are coming in the house, do your best to come in alone. Check groceries before bringing them in to make sure they do not contain fruit flies or spiders. Once groceries are in, look at them carefully as you put them away. Rinse fruits and vegetables before storing them in the refrigerator. Also be sure bags are completely empty before folding them up to be recycled. One or two bugs can be easily eliminated, but if left to their own devices, you may have an infestation before you know it.

Keeping your house clean is one of the easiest ways to reduce the risk of bugs. Some bugs are attracted to food crumbs, spoiled fruit, stagnant water, and dust and dander. Weekly vacuuming, dusting, and wiping down of counters and soft surfaces will reduce your risk of a variety of insects. Emptying your garbage on the daily basis also cuts down on the pests who will want to join you at home.

Finally, take preventative measures like spraying the perimeter of your home with bugspray. Once a month, spray the around doors and windows, down drains, and around the foundation of your home to keep bugs from wanting to come in. Creating a barrier will protect you against possible infestation. For added help, set off a bug bomb or have an exterminator come in and apply preventative solutions. This will make your home an unwelcoming location for pests and insects.
