How To Keep Pavers Clean In All Seasons

Most people find cleaning their pavers a difficult and time eating job

, especially when weather is not fair with them. Hence they prefer to leave them and ignore as if it is hardly a part of their home. But most of them really dont understand that pavers are the first thing your guests come across. Cleaning such features of your house can be indeed a cumbersome task, but contributing a bit of time on regular basis can reduce your effort for whole long day. Here is small but effective tips to keep your pavers clean in all seasons.

For General Dirt

Irrespective of the material used for paving, you need to clean dirt deposited on them to prevent the formation of detritus. For this, regular sweeping will do all. If your paver is made of light colored stones, tire marks and oil spills on them is bound to occur. But this can be removed with light power hose at medium pressure. Try to avoid high pressure power-washers to prevent surface damage. If it really has to be, first take a trial on any hidden surface area.

For weeds

Weeds need no invitation to grow in wet places. They can grow anywhere and in any season in your campus, but the most favorable season for them in spring. This is the time when you need to take special care of paving stones as they can actually decay the material. It is easier to do, just remove large weeds with hands and for rest use weed killer such as Pathclear or Weedol. You will find small weeds dying within few days. However, dont forget to read instructions given on the weed killer.

For Lichen, Moss and Algae

You would need to remove lichen, moss and algae which often grow during or after rainy season. To remove them you will have to scrap them and then treat the affected area with anti-moss paving cleaner. This chemical will kill every micro-organism and even eliminate their traces if applied and left for few days. For best result try use it in dry weather. Next, use yard brushes with hard bristle and a bucket of hot water mixed with detergent (preferably liquid detergent or non-bio washing powder).

For Paving Seals

Over a course of time it is quite normal to find your paving stones losing seals and getting cracks in between the joints. If you reseal them, you will have two benefits first it will combat formation of weeds and staining, and second it will enhance the beauty of the stone. Get acrylic sealers and spray on the blocks to create a thin layer on the top and in the joints to achieve a well maintained look.
