How To Keep Your Money Safe While On Vacation
Vacations begin with planning
Vacations begin with planning. You choose a destination, check the availability of flight tickets then book flights. You search across websites and travel agents for the best deals and lowest airfares. In case of domestic flights, you search for a flight at a suitable time. In case of international flight tickets, you search for flights that ensure you have a good journey and spend the shortest time in transit. While all this planning goes into picking a destination and travelling, a similar but shorter amount of preparation and planning will ensure that you travel safely and arent compromised or discomforted due to monetary issues while on vacation.
These simple tips will ensure that you can travel safely and enjoy your vacation to the fullest without worrying about cash.
Credit cards: These are the best way to spend when you are travelling, especially as you are covered and indemnified in case the card is lost, stolen or misused. Another important factor to remeber is that if you are abroad, it could be awhile before you are able to contact your bank and get the card blocked. However one problem that people might encounter is that some merchants and ATMs might not support their cards and hence their ability to make payments may be hampered. Also, some banks charge premiums if their cards are used to make international payments.
Pre-paid cards: A recent innovation, pre-paid card are pre-loaded with a certain amount of money and have the added benefit of being valid for your destination, in case of international travel. They combine the features of the ease of travelers-cheques, the benefits and safety of credit cards and since they are limited in the amount of funds they possess, they are also safe.
Travellers-cheques: A time-tested method of carrying funds, especially when going abroad, travelers-cheques are the best and safest option to carry. One tip to remember is to encash or exchange them at a big institution like a bank or a hotel as these places would offer you a better rate of exchange. Its also a good idea to split up your travelers-cheques and not keep all of them together so as to minimize the risk.
Cash: Its the easiest form of transaction and the most troublesome to carry. In case you lose your money, your vacation could very easily turn into a nightmare. Its recommended that you carry only the required amount of cash. Another good idea is to split the cash up among your family, so that if one person loses the money atleast the other person has money as well.
Its a good idea to keep some small amounts of money for emergency use in the hotel safe. Another idea is to keep some money in your clothes which you carry while travelling.
