How To Live A Happier Life As You Age

Aging is a natural process and

Aging is a natural process and

it happens to us all. As we age, people often find that they cannot do many of

the things they could do when they were younger. It is therefore necessary for

the elderly to make adjustments for any illnesses or deficiencies that exist.

But it is possible to live a balanced and happy life in later years.

If an elderly person needs a Lincoln

Home Care
aide, the aide should make an assessment of the elderly person's

needs. The patient may be disabled, recovering from a serious accident or

illness. He may be chronically ill or even terminally ill. In any of these

cases, physician and nursing care should be scheduled. The physical, occupational

or speech therapy needs should be considered. Nutritional support can be

provided for through home-delivered meals.

Pharmaceuticals are often

necessary, and can be prescribed by the physician. The nurse can provide

instruction about any necessary medical equipment and supplies. The Lincoln

In-Home Care
aide can provide companionship, assistance with activities of

daily living and even help with transportation. All these activities are

designed to help the home bound patient to the highest level of functioning

possible so that he can pursue an independent lifestyle.

If that independence can be achieved, there are a number of things that an

elderly patient can do to achieve a happier life as he ages.

1) Exercise daily. Staying fit and eating right helps older individuals live

longer, more productive lives. A walking and weightlifting program could be

instituted. A diet that is abundant in fish, chicken, low fat meats, fruits and

vegetables should be considered.

2) Spend time with your family, friends and other loved ones. We only live once

and our relationships should be ones filled with love.

3) Play with small children. This helps to build important bonds between the

young and the old. It helps the elderly to feel young again. It is a lot of

fun, too.

4) Develop a hobby. If it is the right one, it will bring much happiness into a

person's life. Activities like reading, bicycling, playing an instrument,

walking, fishing, cooking, bird watching, playing bingo, and ballroom dancing

could be enjoyed by the elderly.

5) If possible, travel with friends. Seeing the world is a wonderful way to

spend retirement.

6) It is vitally important to stay busy. If possible, Lincoln

Live-In Care
clients should try to find work that suits their interests and

abilities. Being actively employed is the best way for them to make money and

be of some benefit to their employers and the community.

If the client is bedridden, it will not be possible to pursue some of the

suggestions. But the point is to help the client achieve the highest level of

functioning possible so that he can pursue an independent lifestyle.
