How To Make Homemade Clevis And Rod Ends

Instructions:

Instructions:

Step 1. Form a bend in one end of the lure-making wire with a pair of needle-nose pliers. The bend should be about one inch from the end of the wire. Place a dressed treble hook on the wire and slide to the bend. A dressed hook will have a skirt of animal hair or feathers around the shank of the hook. This acts as an additional attractor.

Step 2. Wrap the end of the wire above the hook to hold it in place. Hold the wire just above the treble hook and bend the end of the wire with a second pair of pliers. Wrap the end of the wire around the main wire just above the needle-nose pliers.

Step 3. Slide a metal bead onto the wire and down to the point where the wire is wrapped. On top of the bead, slide on a metal or plastic body. You may choose to add a body with a second skirt attached as an additional attractor.

Step 4. Place another bead on top of the body. Assemble a spinner blade to a clevis and slide onto the wire. The clevis is U-shaped and designed to fit through the hole of the spinner blade. The clevis will have a hole on each end of the "U" that allows it to fit onto the wire. An elongated willow blade is a good choice here.

Step 5. Assemble a second clevis and spinner blade. Consider using a shorter Colorado blade at this point. Place the blade and clevis on the wire.

Step 6. Hold the wire an inch above the top spinner with the needle-nose pliers. Form a loop by wrapping the wire around the needle-nose pliers with the second pair of pliers. Wrap the wire around the main wire two times to finish the lure assembly.

Attracting great numbers of anglers each year, musky are one of North America's larger freshwater game fish. Found in both rivers and lakes, musky are a toothed fish capable of growing quite large in size. Heavy tackle--including larger and durable lures--is typically used when fishing for musky. Many anglers prefer to design and make their own lures, as this provides a means of customizing the bait to specific locations or conditions.
