How To Make Outlook Run Faster
Slow performance of Outlook can really spoil your mood
. If you need to wait for a long time when you launch Outlook then it simply means that something is wrong with Outlook. There can be many reasons due to which Outlook goes slow. Mentioned below are some of the reasons that generally lead into
slow Outlook:
1.Hardware issues: It has been seen in very less cases that hardware issues result in slow Outlook. However, it is the fact that Outlook becomes slow if sufficient RAM is not available. If applications other than Outlook are also running slow then you should think about upgrading RAM; however, if only Outlook is running slow then it is not due to any hardware issue.
2.Software issues: After you have confirmed that Outlook is not slow due to hardware then another possible issue can be Outlook add-ins. Uninstall additional Outlook add-ins that you do not use frequently. After uninstalling Outlook add-ins, restart MS Outlook and observe the time taken by Outlook to load email folders. If there is not much improvement in the speed of Outlook then you need to consider third reason.
3.Large size of PST: Size of the PST file is the most common reason behind slow Outlook. PST file has a size limit. In Outlook version 2003 and earlier, maximum size limit for PST is 2 GB while in Outlook 2007 it has been increased to 20 GB. When Outlook.pst approaches the maximum size limit, Outlook starts taking more time in performing Outlook related tasks, such as creating and sending email, receiving email, adding contacts in the address book, deleting an email, etc. Therefore, to reduce the size of PST, you should delete unwanted emails from your mailbox. When you delete emails from your mailbox then they are transferred into the Deleted Items folder. Empty that folder too. Emptying the Deleted Items folder does not mean that the size of PST will be reduced. In order to reduce the file size, you need to compact the PST because when you delete items from mailbox, they are marked as deleted but the space occupied by those items is not released.
To release the space occupied by items marked for deletion, you need to compact the PST. Mentioned below are the steps that help you compact PST:
1.Start Outlook.
2.Select Tools > Account Settings.
3.Select the Data Files tab.
4.Click Personal Folders button.
5.Click the Settings button.
6.Click the Compact Now button.
Outlook starts freeing the space occupied by deleted items. Depending on the availability of the items marked as deleted, size of the PST will be reduced. This way one can increase the performance of Outlook. However, if you are not much technical then you are suggested to use third party PST Compress and Compact software to make the slow Outlook run faster.
Kernel for PST Compress and Compact is an ideal solution for reducing the size of PST to improve the performance of slow Outlook. The software not only reduces the PST size by freeing up the extra space but also enables the Outlook users to delete attachments from emails and place them at another place. It has been noticed that PST size increases quickly due to availability of attachments in emails. If you remove attachments from emails then the size of PST will be reduced automatically. This way one can make slow Outlook to run at a great speed.
