The most common way is item flipping and item investment. This article is for hardcore merchanters who want around 10-30m profit every merchanting venture. Around 10-100m is advised if you are going to attempt this. Please read on.

Item Flipping

Probably one of the most common ways to merchant. This is when you buy and item at a low price, and sell high. If you want high profit, around 10m, you must be willing to risk 20-30m. For example, you buy 3m rune essence at 20 gp each. Then you sell the rune essence at around maybe 24 gp. You would make a huge profit, around 18m. This is only works best if you set the new price at a right price. Too low, no profit. Too high, no one will buy it. This type of merchanting yields quick profit.

Item Investing

Another common way of merchanting is item investment. Item investment is when you buy an item at market price, or below market price, and you wait for the item to go up in price. Then after the price has risen, you sell it at market price. For example, you buy two Armadyl chestplates at 16m each (market price). After waiting for 2 weeks, the price goes up by 5-15%. Thats around 2m. You sell them at market price again, and you gain 4m. Of course this is only an example, and there are times when the price will blow up by around 200% or more. I myself bought a party hat around 2008, when it was around 150m. Now the price has blown up by 1500%, and have sold it, making a grand profit of 1.2b. These are the times when you enjoy the fruits of item investments. This way yields more profit most of the time, but is slower.
