When writing your ads, I'm sure you've had your share of past failures

. But it doesn't have to be like that anymore. In this article, I'm going to show you how you can start writing winning ads and stop producing ads that are ineffective. These tips are things that I do in my own business so you can lay rest assured that they will work for you. Let's take a look at the first tip for making your ads succeed.

1) Make your ads personal

You should write your ads as if you are having a conversation with someone. When you read your ad, it should sound like a common conversation and not standard industry jargon. One of the best ways to start writing ads that are personal is to listen to the way people talk.

Go down to your local fast food place and hang out there for a few days. This will give you a great idea of how people speak and will allow you to get a gage on how you should write your ads. Never speak in a way that is impersonal to people. This is the fastest way to get your marketing message ignored.


2) Let your ads focus on the wants of your prospect

Your ads should cater to the desires and hopes of your prospect. Never write an ad that doesn't appeal to your ideal reader as this is the fastest way to waste your money. Instead, lead with your biggest benefit first and use that to capture the interest of your prospect.

Before you start writing a word, you should make a list of features and benefits that your product has to offer. Out of this list, your goal should be to pick your best benefit and use that as the centerpiece of your advertising. When you do this, you ensure that your ad is focusing on the top benefit that is weighing heavily on the mind of your reader. This core benefit should address the wants and needs of your market and should be conveyed in a personal fashion.

3) Speak their language

You always want to speak the language of your prospect. You will have to study your target market in order to find out how they speak and the terminology that they use. To start, you can begin by subscribing to magazines that your target reader would subscribe to. Take a good look at all of the magazines and decide if your ideal prospect would read it.

When taking a look inside, you want to pay special attention to how the people in this magazine speak. When running your ad, you want to emulate this way of speaking so that you can have the greatest chance of your ad succeeding.


Obviously you wouldn't address a golfer the same way that you would address the CEO of a large company. Even though a CEO may play golf (and they do), you shouldn't use the same lingo when addressing them directly. Most CEO's maintain a level of professionalism when speaking and at their job, so you will want to keep this in mind when addressing your targeted prospect.
