How To Make Your Client Feel Special - Give Them A Little Freebie

Have you ever gotten that little extra when you purchased something

?

You know what I mean, you purchase an item and it comes with something extra that you were not expecting. For example, the cosmetic's industry has the freebie concept nailed down. In a lot of cases, when you purchase something, there is usually a freebie to go along with it. What a fantastic way to get people to try new products.

The reason I thought about this is that my wife and I recently purchased a new washer and dryer. The company we bought these off came and took the old units away. They also took the dryer hose saying that it was a potential safety hazard on a new dryer. I don't know if this is true or not, but if it is, that's thinking about your client's best interest. What I found baffling is they took the hose, but didn't replace it. So instead of using my new dryer, I had to go over to a hardware store and spend $5 to get a replacement.

Here is an excellent opportunity to have that added extra to make your client happy. If they had just given me a new dryer hose, I wouldn't have had to take 1 hour out of my day to get a new one. What the company should have done is tell a story something like, "Old dryer hoses are a potential hazard due to (whatever the reason is) and as such, we have to remove them and take them with us. But because we care about you as a client, we have a brand new one, free of charge, that we will install and you will be up and running in just a few minutes." Now that would be customer service and something to let others know about.

If you sell a product or a service, is there something extra that you can do or add that will make your client feel great about their purchase? Think about your industry and what might be a nice added extra.

For example:

- If you sell cars, can you organize a free car wash once a month?

- If you sell computers, can you arrange some software that the client will probably need? (hint, most people would like the ability to use Word or Excel on their computer, why not load it up with Open Office?).

- If you sell handbags, why not start a handbag exchange club?

- If you sell houses, why not have a maid service come in once your client moves in and clean the house?

- If you sell high-end pens, can you throw in a couple of refills?

- If you sell cell phones, can you get a phone protector?

This sort of freebie will have your clients talking about you and they will be doing your marketing for you through word of mouth. In addition, you will more than likely make the costs of the extra back in referrals or future purchases.
