Another way to keep your computer running and burning fast software is by defragging. This is done by first closing any applications that are open. Any utilities used for anti-virus, screensavers or programs in the background must be disabled. All and any programs must be ended.

Open the window called My Computer. After which, choose the hard disk you intend to defrag. Next, select Properties from the menu File. Choose the tab Tools. Then, click the button called the Defragment Now.

However, for users of Macintosh, there is no program for defragmentation available. But there is a utility program where defragmentation is possible, albeit partially. This is done by copying numerous files to a backup system or a disk. Of course, the System Folder must not be included.

Once all files are copied, delete all of them from the disk where it originally came from. After which, copy the files backed-up to the original disk.

All in all, the tips given above are simple, efficient and cheap ways to make your computer function to the best of its ability. All it takes is a little of your time, as defragment could require more than an hour.
