Many kids still take a packed lunch to school. They might not like the meals that provided at school. You as the parent might not like the food that is served and want to have more control over what your child is eating. Find out what you can do that will help you pack a healthier school lunch for your child.

You need to do your best to try to add in some sort of fruit or vegetable into the meal. You will have to find things that your child actually likes eating. This could be part of some other part of the meal or as it's own side. Be sure to include dips and sauces that your child might like to make these taste a bit better as well.

Compromise with your child. You are going to have to add in a few things that you might not consider to be completely healthy in order for your child to actually eat the meal and look forward to it. Get something in it that you want in exchange for something that your child wants.

Read the calorie information on the food that you include. You don't want to add in too many calories for this meal. Add in things that will fill up your child without having it be too unhealthy.

Try to get in as much protein as possible into this meal. This will help your child from getting too hungry. This could be things like meats, eggs, nuts, and other food items.

Limit sugars as best as you can. This will help your child to not have such a sugar crash an hour or two after eating. This crash will make it hard to concentrate later in the school day.

Get safe plastic storage containers. This makes it easier to pack healthy foods when putting them into the lunch. The better the seal, the better that the food will taste as it will be fresh.
