How To Pack Paintings For A Move

When you are moving paintings from one place to another

, you need to exercise extreme caution so that they reach the destination intact without damage. Therefore, you must know the proper techniques of packing in order to provide the best possible security.

There are two categories of paintings:

Unframed Paintings

Stock up on special packing supplies like cardboards, picture and mirror boxes, acid free paper, bubble wrap, and so on. Do a bit of research for better information regarding packing materials for unframed paintings before buying the materials.

Rolling a painting is a strict no-no as its corners will get bent or it might get creased.

The unframed artwork has to be placed between numerous layers of strong and sturdy cardboard to prevent bending. Seal the outside of the cardboard pieces with tape so that they stay together.

There should be no shifting within the layers of the cardboard. Fold the sheets of paper in a triangular shape with one end open. Put one paper triangle each on the corner edges of the painting. After that, secure the cardboard and triangle with tape so that any movement is blocked.

After the cardboard is prepared containing the painting, it should be placed between two pieces on corrugated cardboard and taped securely on all sides. You can use a mirror box in place of the corrugated cardboard.

In case it is a canvas painting, pack it with acid free paper to make sure that it is not affected by packing materials. Wrap the box in bubble wrap once more and tape it. Building a second box around the first is necessary so that the box is not pierced by sharp objects while in transit.

Don't forget to label the box by clearly stating that it contains fragile items and needs to be handled with care.

Framed Paintings

Framed paintings should always be packed in sturdy quality packing boxes. Mirror boxes can also be used for framed artwork. A large painting might require 2-3 packing boxes. You have to join them together by telescoping them.

Pack the painting completely using bubble wrap and cover its corners too. Corner protectors should be used for the frame.

With the help of masking tape across the front of the painting, create an X so that the art piece is in place even if the glass breaks while in transit.

Secure the framed painting with more bubble wrap or newspaper wads on the bottom, top and sides to keep it secure while you place it inside the box. This is done to protect it while moving.

The box should be taped all around its edges for better security.

Florida will welcome you with its gorgeous beaches and fantastic weather, so what are you waiting for? Call movers to help you with the move. Be it any city you are moving to, you can always find out detailed listings by searching for Orlando movers or moving companies in Tampa online.
