How To Paint Your Home
Have you ever wondered how the colours influence your mood or your decisions
? They can change your mood and they have a significant role in determing the look of your house. Here are some guidelines how to choose the best colours of the walls in each room:
Living room
Fairly saturated and warm colours should be applied in the living room area - tones of orange or peach. If the room is well lit, you might experiment with dark ones. Don't let all the walls be of the same colour - if you paint walls with one, and other two with another shade or contrasting colour you will create optical illusion that will make the room appear bigger than it actually is. You can experiment with extravagant colours and even dark ones - especially if the space is large and bright. Use claret, brown or magenta. But in this case, be more conservative with the accessories palette. Be aware that such colours might be too opressive for you. So, like with making any decisions related to interior design, follow your intuition more than the current fashion.
Bedroom
The colour in the bedroom will influence our well-being and emotions. Bright and vivid colours will boost you up and might make it more difficult to relax and calm down after hard day at work. So instead go for muted tones of cold colours. Find a leading one, it could be shade of blue or green. You can then choose contrasting accessories, blankets, sheets, pillows as well as on the curtains. Such contrast might be used on one part of the wall - as a print or piece of wallpaper. You can also paint the wall behind the head of the bed with a brave colour like magenta, or orange - you will not see it when reading in your bed or taking an afternoon nap. Make sure it matches with other walls. Avoid grey, black and white - they might be discouraging and lower your mood.
The corridor
In most cases, especially in big blocks of flats, this is a space with almost no sunlight. That's why artificial sources of light play an important role in creating the right look of it. As well as the colour on the walls - while deciding upon it, you might want to take the shape of your room into consideration and try to modify it's size with it. Bright palette, both warm and cold shades will work the best. To make the square-shaped corridor look longer, use saturated colors on the walls perpendicular to the entrance wall and neutral and pale tones on the opposite one. To lower the ceiling in a corridor that simply seems too long, use a trick of painting the ceiling with dark colours.
It's a good idea to take at your favorite photos or in your closet. You might not be aware that you do have favorite tones you weren't even aware of. Go to the forest and let the colours of the nature inspire you, go shopping and observe yourself - your intuition will guide you to choose the colours that are perfect for you and you can later implement those findings while buying the right paint for your walls.
