How To Perform Magnetic Particle Testing

Professionals lie everywhere in todays advanced era

. Everything needs to be systematic and free of errors. All the materials used in the construction site should be tested well in advance before they are ready to use. There are various tests involved in such testing. All of them have different requirements and all of them are performed in different conditions. Some of them are quite accurate whereas others provide wavered results. Something is always better than nothing; therefore the tests must be performed in order to reach at some kind of conclusion at least.

Magnetic Particle Testing is one of the kinds of non destructive testing that makes various kinds of irregularities of iron and steel material come to the foreground. The fact that it comes under the category of non destructive method implies that it will examine the object in question without altering its physical or chemical properties. The hidden benefit is the preservation of the original quality and quantity of the material concerned.

Let us peep into the procedure of the Magnetic Particle Testing. It involves the applying of the magnetic particles on the test piece surface which leads to the accumulation of the particles at the point of crack. It becomes very easy for you after this to rectify the flaws. This method is quite because it has the potential to reveal even the smallest of irregularities. This is possible because of the presence of effective magnetic particles which can detect even the small leakages on the surface.

Till now, I have described the basic things of the method. If we try to go into the technicalities involved, we find two methods to spread the powder on the surface. You can either spread dry powder or you can spread it wet with a petroleum based or water based carrier. When you are working in different fields, it is appropriate to use the dry powder. On the other hand, the latter fluorescent option is better because it flows smoothly over the surface to expose the flaws, even the tiniest of cracks.

While doing all these things, one should not confuse this procedure with the dye penetrant testing since the principles involved in both of them are different. Sometimes, the required fields appropriate for the testing are not available. In that case, one needs to generate the necessary magnetic field by employing DC or AC circuits. AC circuits are used if the requirement is to detect the cracks on or near the surface. If there is complexity involved in terms of flaws, one uses the DC circuit because it has the ability to penetrate deeper.
