These days shelves in grocery and pet stores are stocked with beef, chicken, pork, liver, vegetarian, organic, low fat and calorie and tartar control treats. How do you choose the treat thats best for your dog?

Before selecting treats, you should examine your dogs nutritional needs. Is the dog overweight? Does the dog have any food or other allergies? What about preservatives? Are they harmful to your dog?

It is also a good idea to examine the ingredients contained in the food you normally feed your dog. Another good choice is a dog treat which contains fruit, vegetables or peanut butter. And be sure to watch out for those high calorie and fat dog treats.
