How To Pick The Right Storage Rental Units

It is important that you pick the right storage rental units

, ones that allow access when you need to get into your unit, ones that are the right size for your needs, and that have good security.

There are several things that you need to think about when it comes to storage rental units. One of the biggest things is size. You want a storage unit that is large enough to store items that you have now, but also one that has enough extra space for your future needs as well. There are an abundance of different sized units, ones that are just big enough to hold those household items that are cluttering up your home, to units large enough to store your prized vehicle that you don't drive that often.

Another factor to consider is what you are storing. There are outside storage units, as well as climate controlled indoor units to choose from. If you are storing items that may get damaged from being too cold, from dust and moisture, then you may want to consider an inside storage unit where the temperature is kept at a certain level, and where there isn't going to be any dirt and debris getting in under the door. While an outside unit is good for storing furniture, cars and other items, it is important that if you are storing electronics like televisions, stereo equipment, and computers, they aren't exposed to climate extremes. You could wind up with totally ruined equipment.

Storage rental units should allow easy access to your stored items. This means that you should be able to drive right up to an outside access storage unit, or to the nearest door for indoor storage. This way you are not carrying that heavy bedroom set or entertainment center a long distance. If you choose an inside storage area, make sure they provide some kind of dolly to help you move heavy objects to your storage unit. Also make sure that the company is in a location that has easy access to a major road, not off in the boonies somewhere. The busier the location, the less likely someone is going to break into the facility.

Price is a big factor when it comes to storage rental units. Look for the best units at the lowest prices. Look for bargains as well, like free rentals for the first month, and discounts for paying in advance. Just as important as finding the right rental unit is packing your extra belongings into it.

One of the most important tips when packing your storage unit is planning ahead. Make sure the items that you are going to be wanting access to the least often are packed towards the back of the unit. Also make sure that when you are packing boxes, what is inside is clearly marked on the side of the box that is going to be facing out. This way you can tell at a glance where your old books and electronics you are hardly using are located. A big mistake a lot of people make is just packing their items from the back to the front, filling up the whole space. You want to leave a walk way so you can get at those items in the back, even though you may not need them that often. Maybe that baby crib that is way in the back is now needed, you want to be able to get at it without pulling everything out or climbing over everything else.
