There is no set formula to choosing the right agent for you, but there are some things you should know about what they do. One thing is that they all have exactly the same list of houses to choose from. It is from the multiple listing service in your county. In fact, this list is available to you, as well, over the internet.

When you find a house that appeals to you, you can call the listing agent, that is, the agent that is advertised with that home, or you can call any agent. Any agent can sell you the house. So, if you are shopping for an agent with the best listings, that is not necessarily the agent you will want to work with. For one thing, the agent who holds the listing is working for the seller of that house. In other words, he or she has a fiduciary responsibility to the seller, not to the buyer. So, sometimes it is best to work with an agent other than the listing agent.

You should interview about three agents to see whose personality you would like to work with the best. When you choose one, do not contact another. They have the same list of homes, and you will be wasting your time, as well as one of the other agents.

If your personalities clash, it is best to find another agent. You will be working with this person, perhaps on a daily basis, so you want to be comfortable speaking with him.

Your agent is generally available seven days a week. He has his own strategies for searching homes for you. Do not be afraid to ask your real estate agent questions about contracts, transactions, and so forth.
