How To Plan Your Second Honeymoon

These days it seems like couples are pouring more and more money into a big wedding

bash and then whiling away a week or even two in some exotic location after the event is over. Sometimes those of us who don't get the opportunity for the honeymoon of our dreams can't help but feel a little jealous.

On the other hand, once we get on our feet and start our lives, there is nothing that says we can't carefully plan for a second honeymoon. It will inevitably take awhile to save the money necessary to have the vacation you always dreamed of, but it can be well worth it!

First off, commit to saving a certain amount at regular intervals. This can be every day, every week, or every month, but do set aside the money. This can be through change and extra cash stashed in a jar or through electronic transfers through your bank or credit union's website.

Make sure that you select an amount you will not miss, but don't be too stingy. My spouse and I put away a little less than 15 dollars each week, so we are constantly seeing progress as our auxiliary savings account--set up especially for fun getaways--gradually inflates.

Fifteen dollars is a relatively small amount, so if you are hoping to plan your second honeymoon sooner rather than later, you should cut the fat out of your budget so that you can dedicate extra funds to make your goal.

However, make sure that you are maintaining two separate savings accounts. If you have seen the Disney/Pixar film Up, then you know that even small crises can derail big dreams. So if you are also putting away money into a "rainy day fund," you will not have to be concerned about putting your honeymoon on hold because of a flat tire or leaky roof.

By the time you get to the point of enjoying a vacation like this one, you may have a child or two, so try to choose a strategic time when they can have a little vacation of their own. A family vacation and a second honeymoon are NOT the same, so look into their spring break or going over the summer months when they can visit their grandparents or another family member.

You don't have to select an exotic locale to have a great time bonding with your spouse. Instead, focus on finding a place that you can both enjoy yourselves. And don't forget to splurge on the romantic extras!
