How To Play Beer Pong
After you setup your beer pong table, you are ready to play the game! The object
of this festivity is to the ping-pong ball into one of your opponent's cups. You first, of course, have to determine who will go first. A lot of people enlist the use of thumb war or other adolescent pre-game rituals, but it is best to just utilize the most common method to avoid confusion. One player from each team should stand opposite from each other on either side of the ping-pong table.
While they steady a glare at each other, they should simultaneously count to three and throw the ping-pong balls to the opposing end (without the intention of hurting either person). If someone sinks a ball in one of their opponent's cup, that person wins and hence goes first. However, if no one manages to sink a ball in, the individuals switch out with their team members who will then shoot. Whoever manages to get their ping-pong ball in the cup first, commences the game.
Once the first team is selected, they must then take their ping-pong balls and continue to sink them into the opposite team's cups. Usually there is a line that the players cannot cross and a foul line (the edge of the table) to ensure the fairness of the game - although, drunkenness can often blur the lines of competitive game play.
Both team members on the first team will attempt to sink a ball. If they fail, the next team will throw their ping-pong balls to try and get them in their opponent's cup. However, if a team keeps sinking them into the cup, their turn will continue until all the cups have been sunk.
Remember, the team must drink every ping-pong ball that falls into their cup. Usually, there will be a cup of water on either end of the table for the players to wash off their ping-pong balls. This keeps the game sanitary and the beer free of dirt and contaminants that are usually collected after the ball hits the ground.
For each cup that is sunk, the formation may need to be changed to continually make a triangle. For example, if three cups in the last row are sunk, then the formation will need to be adjusted so the back row is still the longest row in the triangle, while the shortest (consisting of one cup) is in the front. This will continue with each team's set of cups until they have all been consumed. They can then be refilled and set up for the next set of teams to play.
Remember, this game is intended to be fun and not adhere too strictly to any given set of rules. The main point is to sink the ping-pong balls and enjoy yourselves!
