Darts is a form of a throwing game. The participants throw darts in a circular target attached to the wall. Even though there were many different kinds of targets and rules in this game, nowadays the term "darts" refers to the standard game with a circular dashboard and the certain set of rules.

The game itself was founded in the United Kingdom and became a competitive game commonly played in pubs in the USA, Holland, Belgium, Ireland and Canada. And has also become and a professional sport.

In the standard game the dashboard should be attached to the wall on the heights of 1,73 meters from the floor. The board is 451 mm in diameter and is divided into 20 absolutely equal sections of black and white. Hitting one of the black or white large sections scores the value of the section. Hitting thin red or green portions doubles your points while hitting the thinner portion of black or white section triples them. For hitting the green ring which is known "outer bull" or "bull"s ring" you will receive 25 points, for red circle or as it as also called"inner bull" "" 50 points. The term "bullseye" can refer either to the red circle or to the whole central part of the dashboard. Each section is usually separated with metal wire and the thinner the wire is the better the board is. All the numbers on the board are made of wire as well. The maximum possible score is 180 provided that all the three darts hit the triple 20.

The weights of the darts shouldn"t be more than 50 grams; the most common ones are between 19 and 25 grams. The well-known producers of darts equipment are: Unicorn, Winmau and others.

The game became very often played in pubs and between young people. Besides the fact that it is competitive and fun it is great for coordination and for skills. The more you practice the more professional you become at it. There are also different variants of the dart game: American darts, dart golf, audio darts, killer, lawn darts and others.

Darts became a sport in Belgium since 1982 when the Belgium Open "" darts tournament was first held. In 2011 the first edition of International darts Tournament was held in Ghent with a prize of 2,500 euro. In Belgium the game was originally called "Vogelpik". It was an early version of modern darts. It has remained the popular game since the 18th century. It is categorized as target individual sport.
