How To Prepare Tapsilog- Popular Filipino Breakfast Recipe

Filipinos love to eat, it is very evident that kitchen becomes the most busiest area in the house

, Before, Filipina housewife usually consumes majority of her time preparing food for family, now a days when people become more busy people tends to have their breakfast on small eatery, among them are Tapsilogan. Presently rice topping has become a popular Filipino food on the street, Filipino is inclined with breakfast commonly known as Tapsilog (Tapa, Sinangag, Itlog), tapa is a Filipino beef recipe comparable with beef jerky, sinangag is for fried rice and Itlog is sunny side up egg. Tapsilog is a usual menu on every pares house eatery, it is very popular as the price is so affordable considering the price of beef on per kilo basis, it is usually served with miswa soup and spicy garlic vinegar as a dipping. If you want to try this delicious popular Filipino breakfast recipe just follow my step by step procedure.

Beef Tapa Ingredient:

1 kg beef lean meat, slice thinly

cup minced garlic


1 tbsp ground peppercorn

1 vetsin (Optional)

1 cup Soy sauce

Cooking Oil

2 tbsp brown sugar

How to Prepare Beef Tapa:

Wash beef thoroughly, remove excess water by draining using strainer. In a platter mix soy sauce, sugar, minced garlic, vetsin, and ground peppercorn. Include beef strips to marinate overnight then fry.

Sinangag (Fried Rice) Ingredient:

Left over rice (5 cups)

1 tbsp salt

Cooking oil

2-3 tbsp minced garlic

1 whole onion, slice

50 grams of bacon (Slice)

Spring onion

How to Prepare Fried Rice:

Using both hand, mashed rice and include salt to season, in a grease less pan saut bacon until it secretes its own oil, add cooking if needed, remove bacon from the pan then saut garlic until it brown, add onion until the color turn into transparent. Add bacon, rice and stir fry for 15 20 minute until rice are crispy. Sprinkle with spring onion

Miswa (Rice Noodle) Soup Ingredient:

2 pack of miswa (100 gram)

2-3 tbsp minced garlic

1 whole onion, slice

150 gram ground pork

Cooking oil

Pork cube seasoning

100 gram Vegetable Gourd (Patola)

tbsp ground peppercorn

2-3 tbsp fish sauce (Patis)


How to Prepare Miswa Soup:

In a heated pan with cooking oil, saut garlic, onion, and ground pork. Add 1 tbsp of fish sauce and stir fry for 15 minute in a low fire. Add water and seasoning, bring to boil and simmer for 15 minute or until ground peppercorn is well done, add miswa noodle, ground peppercorn, and patola. Bing to boil and simmer again for few minute until vegetable is well done.

In a platter, scoop and place 1 cup of fried rice, top with fried egg (Sunny side-up), and side with fried tapa. Tapsilog is best served with spicy garlic vinegar along side with hot miswa soup.
