How To Protect Your Baby From Eczema

Atopic dermatitis, commonly known as eczema frequently appears on babies on the first year of their lives

. It is a type of skin rash that usually appears on the forehead, scalp, and on the babys cheeks. It also reaches the arms, legs and upper body. Accordingly, 30% of infants as well as young children until the age of 5 will experience eczema but apparently many babies with this kind of condition will see an improvement when they reach the age of 2 years old. When a member of the family had history of eczema, skin allergies or asthma before, most often than not the baby most likely will have a similar occurrence. However it was not confirmed that it is hereditary.

The skin rash or eczema on your babies appears to be dry, almost thick and results to scaly skin. It could lead to bumps then blisters when they are scratched which normally happens since babies do not have a sense of consciousness. Once they feel it itchy they would likely to scruff them.

Apparently, eczema is not infectious but once it gets irritated that commences the problem. Many reports state that they do not know the exact cause of eczema. Consequently, there has been no definite cure for the babys conditions since most doctors would say; it will just vanish when the baby grows up. However, mother could not contain their concerns once they see their baby covered with scaly skins and getting itchy most of the time.

But here are a few tips on how to protect your baby from eczema. Most say it can be restricted with a tender loving care:

First, to prevent the skin of the baby from getting inflammation and eventually itching, it is necessary to give frequent lukewarm baths which should not exceed 10 minutes. Use very mild soaps or baby cleansers. You may also use pulverized oatmeal and rub it to infected areas.

Afterwards, make sure the skin of the baby is always moist. Accordingly, do not rub the babys skin with just any towel bath. Pat the babys skin dry with gentle strokes and use fine towel. And then wipe on moisturizer, make sure it is not scented. Do this often, on a daily basis.

Dress your baby with soft fabrics and that does not contain any fabric conditioner so as to avoid irritation. Iron the clothes of the baby to keep away from insects. Their bites oftentimes lead to infections.

If you are living in a cold or dry place make sure the air in the babys room is in suitable temperature. Provide humidifier to protect your baby. Ensure to position it in a spacious room and keep the tank clean to inhibit growth of molds.

If the eczema keeps on persisting, you can ask your pediatrician on any cream that would soothe the baby. 1 percent of hydrocortisone cream will do but in severe cases a stronger dosage can be inquired.
