If you have a herb garden that you kept outside during the winter and now you will need to provide it with some good care
. Almost all herbal plants can grow quite easily inside of some containers and will only require some minimal care. Here are some tips on how to provide indoor herb garden care. This way you shall have plenty of herbs throughout the whole winter.
The first thing that you will want to consider is having a windowsill where you can place the herbs so they will have plenty of sun light. Providing them with lots of sun light will help them to survive. If you have a window that is near to the southeast or south then this will certainly be just right where the herbs can get around five hours of sunlight each day and also it is recommended to keep them away from drafts.
Some people feel that purchasing the herbal plants from any local nursery. This is a good idea as they are properly cared for when you go to make a purchase. Be sure that when you do go to have a small container with you to place the herb plants. It is suggested that you make sure the container is about 6 to 12 inches deep. This way you can be sure to plant several herbs in just a wide or even long container or at least use a 6 inch pot for any individual plants.
You will also want to use a soil less potting mix which will help you to avoid any soil born diseases. Make sure that the soil is light and is also well drained. Make a 2 to 3 inch layer of the potting mix at the very bottom of the container and then carefully place the plants into the container.
Next you shall want to finish filling up the container with the potting mix and be gentle around the plants as to not hurt or damage them. Then leave about one inch at the very top of your container for the purpose of watering these plants. But be sure to only water them sparingly as the herbs will not sit very well in too much water.
You will need to feed these plants about once a month with some good fertilizer. Then just allow the plants to have time to acclimate. Then after you begin to see any new growth you can begin using the herbs.
Make sure that you choose the herbs that will not grow too wide or tall. Basil, lavender, chives, mint, parsley, and also thyme are some wonderful choices. You may want to consider using a florescent light should there be no sunlight available for the herbal plants. Snip and start using the plants which can often help to encourage them to grow full and very bushy.
