How To Quit Smoking Easily Without Any Cravings

So how do you give up smoking easily? Well that really is the sixty four million dollar question. Hypnosis is the easiest way to quit simply because it addresses the one thing that the pharmaceutical methods such as patches and gum can't. It addresses the sense of loss felt by the smoker. If you feel that you are giving something up then you will miss it. You are reminded all day long of your old habit. Every time you sit down for a cup of coffee, take a break, talk on the phone, all those things you used to do with a ciggy remind you that you have lost something that meant something to you. In other words it had some value to you. The craving that you feel when you quit is directly related to the sense of loss that you feel. This is proportional to the value you placed on the cigarettes to help you relax or help you concentrate or whatever. So although you want to stop smoking, (you tell yourself it's bad for you, you feel scared at the prospect of contracting some smoking related disease, you think of the money you would save etc), you can't because of the value you have placed on those cigarettes. Of course it's not every cigarette that you smoke that you miss. For most of the cigarettes you smoke you will find yourself actually wondering why you are smoking them. However, as soon as you quit smoking then it's the ones you did enjoy that pop into your head! So the idea of a cigarette pops into your head and you imagine and fantasise how good it would be to smoke it so it becomes very tempting.sometimes too tempting and you fail in your attempt to quit.

The big problem is that your imagination is very powerful. In fact your imagination is much much stronger than your will power. Not surprising then that New Scientist magazine found that willpower was one of the least successful methods for quitting smoking! Hypnosis on the other hand was found to be the single most effective way to quit. Hypnosis works so well because it does what the pharmacological methods can't. It directly addresses the sense of loss felt by the smoker when they quit. There is another way that hypnosis proves incredibly powerful and that is because it can be used to help the smoker visualise themself as a non smoker.

The important factor to remember here is that you get what you focus on. If you focus on cigarettes and smoking then you will likely fail in your attempt to quit. If you focus on your goal, ie to become a happy healthy non smoker then you will achieve just that. All successful people visualise, they rehearse the scenario they want to achieve in their head before they go and do it. If you want to be successful at stopping smoking you have to get your mind working for you and visualising what you want to happen which is of course that you become a happy non smoker (not an ex smoker that misses their old habit).

"But I'm addicted to nicotine" I hear you say. The addictive quality of nicotine is in fact a myth! Let me explain. Much of what we understand about smoking and how addictive it is and how hard it is to give up smoking has been mediated by the tobacco and pharmaceutical industries. There is a very good reason for this and it comes down to money. The tobacco industry has a vested interest in keeping it's customers because less people are now taking up smoking, more people than ever are succeeding in quitting and that's not great if you are in the business of profiting from tobacco. Of course when your customers start to leave, smart businesses react to keep those customers. The tobacco industry reacted by becoming involved with the pharmaceutical companies making the nicotine replacement remedies! That's right, tobacco companies actually hold shares in these companies. It's win win for them, especially when you consider the low success rates of these products. The problem with all of the pharmaceutical approaches is that they address the supposed "nicotine addiction" and it's not the nicotine that is causing you to fail in your attempts to quit.

It is your beliefs that keep you hooked and not nicotine! If you believe that something is hard to do then it will be hard and if you believe that you will miss smoking then you will and so you will feel a sense of loss. You miss the smoking because you believe on some level that it is of value to you As I have already said, you get what you focus on so focus on what you really want which is to be a happy healthy non smoker and not what you fear may happen which of course is you fear that you will miss smoking, you fear that life will be unbearable without cigarettes because these things are only true if you make them so!
