How To Recycle Exhibition Stands

Exhibition stands are constructs which support both signage and inventory

. These portable devices are typically made of aluminum, which may be recycled after use. Often, exhibition stands are made for a customized look to complement the wares a retailer is selling.

These stands may be small or large in size. They can be dressed with fabrics to contrast a retailer's inventory. For instance, if a retailer is selling red colored mobile phones, blue fabric is draped over part or all of the exhibition stand to make the cellular phones more visible.

More commonly, these stands are built with pre-designed images, logos and are used in trade shows. A retailer or inventor supplies the exhibition stand company with images or art clips. A stand is then designed and built to the inventor or retailer's specifications.

Once you have gotten your use out of an exhibition stand, it might be headed for the rubbish bin. But there is another alternative to disposing of exhibition stands, you can recycle them. Before you do, make sure to ring local recycling centres to ensure they accept the materials.

To recycle exhibition stands, you'll need a few tools and a helping hand.

Tools You'll Need:

Utility knives, Wrenches, Rivet removal tools, Acetylene torch Bags Magnets

Disassembling Exhibition Stands:

First, clear the exhibition stand up. Remove any materials from the stand until bare. Then, begin cutting away any art work with utility knives. Leave only the bare metal. Put the cut-away artwork in a neat pile.

Second, use wrenches and/or rivet removal tools to take the exhibition stand apart. Your goal is to break the exhibition stand down into individual components. Leave no bolts, rivets or screws in the individual pieces. Each piece should be "clean" or free of all steel fasteners. You may need to use an acetylene torch to cut up the exhibition stand. Exercise proper caution when using an acetylene torch. Read the manufacturer's safety instructions to avoid injury.

Third, separate the individual components from the metal fasteners. Place the metal fasteners in bags. If the fasteners are comprised of different metals, then place like metal in separate bags.

Fourth, schedule take-away of your exhibition stand by a local recycling centre. In the alternative, haul the disassembled to a nearby recycling centre.

Remember that you may be able to recycle all the components of the exhibition stand. Some recycling centres will accept not only the aluminum frame, but will also accept the fasteners as well as the art work. Practically any material can be recycled with modern technology. Recycling centres might even offer to pay you for your "scrap" exhibition stand. In the very least, it will be further broken down and reused in another application.

Keep in mind when anything nears the end of its life, it can usually be recycled. This includes, paper, rubber, glass, aluminum, other metals as well as organic materials. This not only helps the environment, it also keeps the cost of new items lower by reusing materials rather than disposing of them in the rubbish.
